A socio-political group in Ogun State, Grassroots Network for Development, GND, on Sunday endorsed Muraina Olatunji Banjoko, popularly known as Threeco, as its preferred candidate for the Ogun Central Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was announced during a stakeholders’ meeting attended by community leaders, youth representatives and women groups drawn from across the six local government areas that make up the Ogun Central Senatorial District.
Speaking at the gathering, the leader of the group, Hon. Yemi Ibigbemi, said the decision to support Banjoko followed extensive consultations with members and key stakeholders in the district.
According to him, Banjoko has demonstrated over the years that he possesses the leadership qualities and commitment required to represent the people effectively at the National Assembly.
“After wide consultations with our members and leaders across Ogun Central, we are convinced that Otunba Muraina Olatunji Banjoko, fondly called Threeco, is the right person to represent our district in the Senate come 2027,” Ibigbemi said.
He noted that Banjoko’s long-standing involvement in community development initiatives and his accessibility to the grassroots made him stand out among other potential aspirants.
“Threeco has always identified with the people. His record of supporting youth empowerment programmes, community initiatives and grassroots development speaks volumes about his passion for service,” he added.
Ibigbemi further stated that the group believes Banjoko has the capacity to provide strong and effective representation for Ogun Central at the national level.
“Our people deserve a senator who understands their needs and is ready to champion their cause. Threeco is someone who listens, who engages with the grassroots and who has consistently shown concern for the welfare of ordinary citizens,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, a youth representative, Mr. Sola Adeyemi, said many young people in the district believe Banjoko’s leadership would bring renewed hope and opportunities for the younger generation.
“Many youths in Ogun Central see Threeco as someone who understands our challenges. We believe he will promote policies that support job creation, education and youth empowerment,” Adeyemi said.
Similarly, a women leader at the meeting, Mrs. Funke Alake, described Banjoko as a compassionate leader who has always been supportive of women-focused initiatives.
“He has always been approachable and supportive whenever issues affecting women and families are raised. That is why many women in our communities believe he will represent everyone fairly at the Senate,” she said.
In his remarks, a community elder, Chief Adebayo Ogunleye, said the endorsement reflected the collective desire of many residents to have a representative who prioritizes development and unity.
“We want someone who will speak for our communities and bring meaningful development to Ogun Central. From what we know of Threeco, he has the experience and goodwill to achieve that. We hope the APC will make the right Choice,” Ogunleye stated.
The group expressed confidence that with growing support from various segments of the district, Banjoko’s senatorial aspiration would gather momentum as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.
Members also pledged to continue mobilizing support across communities to ensure what they described as “purposeful and people-oriented representation” for Ogun Central at the National Assembly.
