The All Progressives Congress (APC) has distanced itself from Mr. Abayomi Hunye, who recently declared himself as the party’s governorship candidate in Ogun State for the 2027 elections.

APC’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, dismissed Hunye’s claim as false and misleading, stressing that Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan (Yayi) remains the party’s recognized flagbearer.

Basiru explained that Hunye is not a member in good standing, having been suspended on April 7, 2026, following a petition from his ward in Ipokia Local Government Area. The suspension, he noted, was initiated at the grassroots level, endorsed by the local executives, and later ratified by the Ogun State Working Committee before being communicated to the national leadership.

According to the party, Hunye’s suspension was based on activities considered harmful to APC’s image and deliberate attempts to sow division among members. Consequently, the party emphasized that Hunye lacks the authority to speak or act on its behalf.
