Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said that President Bola Tinubu will the 2027 general election on the strength of his achievements so far.

Speaking on Monday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, while receiving members of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions, TETFund and NELFund, led by Senator Muntari Dandutse, Akpabio said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would have sufficient achievements to present to Nigerians when campaigns for the 2027 election begin.

According to him, Tinubu inherited a difficult economic situation but has taken steps that have improved the finances of states and changed the situation regarding payment of salaries and pensions.

“The current president has done a lot for Nigerians. He met an economy in shambles. When he came in, 27 states could not pay salaries and pensions, but today, the story has changed because of his reengineering and thinking out of the box,” Akpabio said.

He expressed optimism that voters would reward the administration at the polls, saying the APC would use its record in government to make its case to the electorate.

“In 2027, Nigerians will separate the chaff from the grains and re-elect President Tinubu for a second term in office. We will have something to tell Nigerians about the unprecedented achievements of Mr president at the campaign grounds,” he said.

Akpabio also took a swipe at opposition politicians challenging Tinubu in the forthcoming election, accusing them of failing to offer Nigerians convincing alternatives to the APC-led administration.

The Senate President further defended the performance of the 10th National Assembly under his leadership, saying the Senate had made what he described as “giant strides” and would continue working with the executive to implement its programmes.

He also urged lawmakers to remain focused despite criticism on social media.

“We don’t need to listen to social media because it is garbage in, garbage out,” Akpabio said.

He called on senators who would not return to the 11th Senate after the 2027 elections to remain committed to the APC and support the Tinubu administration.

According to him, their loyalty and continued contribution to the party would be recognised.

The meeting was also attended by members of the Senate committee, who were in Akwa Ibom as part of their legislative responsibilities during the annual recess.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Dandutse said the committee’s visit was to fulfil its constitutional duties and pay a courtesy visit to the Senate President.
