General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has predicted the circumstances and manner of his death saying he would die peacefully on a Sunday after attending church service and enjoying his favorite meal of pounded yam.
The 83-year-old renowned cleric, spoke on the fourth day of the church’s ongoing international convention themed “The Overcomers,” where reiterated his belief that death does not always follow prolonged illness. He first made the same declaration two years ago.
“I will die on a Sunday after attending service, eat my beloved pounded yam, and then pass on without any sickness,” Pastor Adeboye affirmed, emphasizing that his departure would be sudden and painless.
“Fight for Your Divine Rights”, Adeboye then charged Christians
In his message under the theme “Possess Your Possessions,” Pastor Adeboye urged believers to aggressively claim what rightfully belongs to them through Christ. He drew a parallel to the biblical Israelites, whom God had promised the land of Canaan but still had to fight to possess it.
His words: “In many cases, you may have to fight for things that are already yours. Your greatest friend, Jesus Christ, paid a great price to purchase your healing, but there is a thief who comes to steal, kill, and destroy. The One who owns the earth and its fullness thereof, and owns all the silver and gold, paid a terrible price so that you wouldn’t be poor. As long as you want to remain poor, you will remain poor.
“If you make it as a Christian, they criticise you. If you die poor, they say ‘Where’s your God? Long life is yours. We must not remain under the power of the forces of darkness anymore, how can I be a child of God and still be tormented by the forces of darkness?” He referenced the story of Jacob wrestling with the angel (Genesis 32) as a model of tenacity: According to him, “Jacob wrestled with the angel until his fate was changed. It is what we tolerate that disturbs us.”
He urged the congregation to stop tolerating sickness, poverty, barrenness, or premature death, saying the fight to possess their possessions is a necessary spiritual duty empowered by Christ’s sacrifice.
