Iheanacho Moves to Celtic on Free Transfer

Scottish giants, Celtic, have confirmed the signing of Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho on a one-year contract 24 hours after his deal with Sevilla was terminated.

The 28-year-old arrives on a free transfer, with the Scottish champions inserting an option for an additional year.

Iheanacho reunites with Brendan Rodgers, under whom he enjoyed the most prolific season of his career at Leicester City, scoring 19 goals in all competitions during their FA Cup-winning 2020–21 campaign.

“Celtic Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Kelechi Iheanacho on a one-year deal, subject to international clearance, with the club having the option of a further year,” the club said in a statement on Tuesday evening.

His arrival comes after criticism from supporters over the club’s failure to sign a forward before transfer deadline day.

Iheanacho began his professional career at Manchester City, where he won the League Cup in 2016, before making over 200 appearances for Leicester.

He lifted the FA Cup with the Foxes in 2021 and later joined Sevilla in 2024, finishing last season on loan at Middlesbrough.

On the international stage, Iheanacho has earned 58 caps for Nigeria and was part of the squad that finished runners-up at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
