Rapper, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has counter sued the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons for declaring him wanted over alleged rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking.
Okoye, in a suit filed on July 9, 2025, at the Federal High Court, Abuja, is seeking N3bn in damages; N1bn general and N2bn punitive. He also wants a perpetual injunction stopping the agency from acting on its June 27 “Wanted” notice.
NAPTIP had declared him wanted after he failed to honour the agency’s invitation, bodering on the claims he made in a video posted on his Instagram page in which he alleged that he had carnal knowledge of a minor in a hotel.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency reportedly referred the matter to NAPTIP for investigation when the clip drew public outrage.
Before his counter suit, Okoye, in a video, insisted that the agency does not have any right to declare him wanted because he did not commit any crime, adding that their demands are baseless and defamatory.
He maintained that the video was “a prank” and part of music promotion theatrics, not a confession. He stated that the wanted notice “endangered” him, hurt bookings, and damaged his brand.
He said, “Irresponsible talk is not a crime. Where is your evidence? Who is the complainant? You want to use me to chase clout on social media. I am not coming. You people are just reacting to the bunch of people on social media hating on Speed Darlington.”
He further alleged that some women tagging NAPTIP “just hate” him. He said, “They’re mad because I don’t have eyes for women in their late 20s, 30s, 40s… people listen to me and they don’t like it.”
Reacting to inquiries over the matter, NAPTIP’s spokesperson, Vincent Adekoye, said, “On this, the agency has no comment for now. Maybe by next week, we might study the situation and react. We have no development or response now.”
