A three-storey mixed-use building at OGS Bus Stop, Baale Road, Ajuwon (on the Ogun-Lagos border) collapsed during heavy rainfall on Monday, killing three people and injuring several others.
A 75-year-old man and few months old baby were among 12 others persons rescued from the debris.
Eye witnesses said the lower part of the structure sank during the downpour, causing the building to crumble. Residents criticized delays in emergency response, though rescue teams from Ogun and Lagos states, alongside police, fire service, and other agencies, later joined efforts.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency joined officials from Ogun State to carry out rrscue operations on the site. LASEMA confirmed the fatalities and ongoing search operations were on, noting that an adjoining bungalow was also compromised and will be demolished.
Meanwhile, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has ordered full investigation, with experts tasked to assess structural integrity, soil stability, and construction standards.
Authorities however warned that anyone found violating building regulations would face prosecution.
Both Ogun and Lagos governments pledged support for the victims and emphasized stricter enforcement of building codes to prevent future tragedies.
