Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has described Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara as a transformed politician, saying the governor has acknowledged his mistakes by returning to the political fold that brought him to power.
Wike made the remarks on Tuesday while speaking with journalists after inspecting ongoing road construction projects in the Federal Capital Territory.
Reacting to claims that he had forgiven the Rivers governor following their prolonged political feud, the former Rivers State governor dismissed the notion, maintaining that political disagreements should not be viewed as personal offences.
According to him, “I don’t understand what people mean by sin in politics. Politics is not about sin. If a person recognises that they made the wrong decision and chooses to make amends, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. The important thing is admitting the mistake and taking the right path.”
The FCT minister noted that he had anticipated Fubara’s return long before the governor publicly announced his reconciliation with his political camp.
“I said during my last media briefing that he had no option but to return to the political family that produced him. I have now been told that he has made that declaration publicly. We welcome him wholeheartedly. Our doors remain open because our collective interest is to work together. There is no better course of action than unity for the progress of Rivers State,” Wike said.
He further expressed confidence that the renewed alliance would enhance efforts to rally political support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Now that he has openly declared his return, we have accepted him in good faith. There is nothing to conceal. We will join hands to ensure that President Tinubu secures the votes required for a successful re-election in 2027,” the minister stated.
